I have a COMPAQ Presario 1210us notebook. I'm dual-booting WinME and Linux (distribs vary) with XOSL boot manager.
Certain versions of Linux cause my machine to hang when it restarts. It restarts fine with WinME (or any other version of windows). Mandrake 8.1 worked just fine (no reboot problems). Red Hat 7.2 on the other hand, hangs. And I've recently discovered that Mandrake 8.2 does the same thing (hangs).
The machine restarts, I see the "COMPAQ" screen and the cursor appears in the top-right corner and everything hangs. They keyboard won't respond. All of my battery/power lights light up. Nothing responds. The hard drive shuts down and the fans continue to hum.
Someone said it's a hardware problem. I don't believe that. I think it's the way the OS is invoking the restart via the BIOS (I really don't know -- I'm speculating).
If Mandrake 8.1 can work, why can't 8.2? Is this a kernel issue, perhaps? Or is there a config file I could edit? I really don't know at this point.
If anyone can provide me with any kind of info, I'd really appreciate it.
