I don't know how to do that in Linux. I know that I used to allow read caching but disallow write caching in Novell Dos 7 but on Linux I have never tried to mess with the cache.
I read the book "Understanding the Linux Kernel"about three years ago. This book goes into extreme detail on how the cache works and the answer to your question would be in there. I don't remember the book saying much about configuring the kernel or turning it off.
