Linux costs

I’m thinking of changing to a Linux server. How would this affect my IT budget? Am I just decreasing the software cost and increasing the support cost?

The answer is "How competent are you and your staff with Linux?".
If you know easily available Linux solutions will fill your requirements and you and/or your staff are able to "run the system" then you are good.
If you do not know what software you need or how to set up and run it then you will be paying someone for this.
Your own capabilities (and staff?) need to be figured into the equation.
If you (and/or your staff) has never used Linux the answer is a resounding maybe or maybe not.
Just my thought on the subject.
Good Luck.
