Linux Configuration Tool

Hi Everyone,

I know a lot of people here are interested in a configuration tool directly mainly towards the Linux system, but I've been reccomended to try a free one that works for most systems.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with it, it seems like it's good, but I didn't know if the ones directly mainly to Linux would be better to use for configuration my Linux system, or what.

So many people use Microsoft so I'm glad there are people that can help the rest of us out there.

The link to the tool, Auditor Lite, is here:
ecora.com/ecora/products/documentor.asp

Thanks so much to anyone that can help!
-Jill

Bummer. It's not a configuration tool but a documentation tool.

What do you want to configure? Most of the tools you would already have or could install them from your media or your distro's repo.

Oh man, I guess I shouldn't trust my sources then... make me look like I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Well my system got hacked into before, I didn't take the precautions I should have, and I lost a lot of my settings.

I'm kind of new at this. Maybe I should find a 1-800 number somewhere.

Thanks!

OK, so basically you're looking for host hardening instructions and backup routines?
1. Fill in your profile details and if this is about a specific distribution then say so. Knowing which one you use can help us give you distro-specific info
2. For host hardening start by reading these two docs. They'll give you an overview of things to do:
UNIX Security Checklist v2.0: http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/unix_s...cklist2.0.html
SANS, The Twenty Most Critical Internet Security Vulnerabilities: http://www.sans.org/top20/
If you don't get what this is about then ask the moderator of this forum to move your thread to the Linux Security forum and ask for more detailed instructions which we can then add to this thread.
If you do get what this is about then read distro-specific info in the LQ FAQ: Security references, post #1 under "Hardening, distro specific" and take it from there.

Uh. Aren't we the Linux communities virtual 1-800 number?
