Linux Compiling Problems

I'm running yellowdog linux 2.3 on ppc
In my last installation I had no trouble compiling sources. In this install for some reason I get the following errors when I try to compile anything

here is a copy of my screen

[peter@linuxbox apple2-emul-0.7.4d]$ ./configure

checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for mawk... no
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH

[peter@linuxbox apple2-emul-0.7.4d]$
anyone able to help? pulease

Well it looks like your compilers can not be found in your path. I don't know where these are located in yellowdog. You do have these installed right?

Yellowdog is "RedHat for ppc" true? Redhat doesn't install gcc and others compiler in the default (workstation) installation (this is very stupid at my humble opinion). Put your cd in, and try to find the correct gcc package on it.... Or you can also boot with the installation cd and choose "repair or update an existing system" to install missing package.

Try changing to super user before compiling, some systems are set up this way for security reasons.
use the command: su -

"peace"
