Linux commands not implemented in UNIX

I'm currently taking an intro to Linux class for new sysadmins. (At least that was how it was supposed to be presented. In actuality the SME who wrote the course seems to be presenting it as Linux administration for people who've worked with Linux for a while.) School politics and stuff aside, I've been given an assignment to
Use the Internet to research and determine 5 new line commands available on Linux systems, which are not available for regular UNIX systems. Use RedHat and SuSe as your references for this paper. List each command and provide a brief description of the commands function.

I've tried looking in my textbook and it is unhelpful. With all of the searches I've been doing, I only come up with man pages on specific commands, or other unhelpful stuff. I'm not expecting a chart showing commands and which kernel they're supported in, but it would help.

Does anyone know of anything like that, or anything else that would help?

P.S. to the moderators: If this would belong better in a different forum, please move it.

Thanks,

Jason

Well, there's specific package related commands.

And I would suggest you brainstorm about other areas where Linux has specialized functions or where it differs from traditional Unix systems.

Oh, I know we're not technically supposed to help with homework on this site. But you may want to take a look at:

http://bhami.com/rosetta.html

Which is a page you should become familiar with if you're actually going to be doing admin work on more than one Unix variant... it helps translate the way one system relates to another. Careful use of that should turn up commands unique to Linux for you.

The rest of the assignment can be done with man pages.

Thank you all very much. Frob, that site looks like exactly what I was looking for!

I know I've got to do it myself, but it's kinda hard when you've got no idea what you're doing.

I understand where you're coming from. Unless you know exactly what you're looking for that search is very hard. I had found that site before when I needed to translate some commands from one system to another and had it bookmarked. But I couldn't find a reasonable google search which would bring it or another site like it up (based on the information you gave in your post) -- so I knew you weren't finding it.

Good luck.
