Linux as a multimedia server @ home?

What would be the best way to get a dedicated linux machine running these features:

* playback of dvd video onto a gfx card connected to a tv (simple interface for all ages would be nice =)

* playback of divx/xvid/svcd/etc from disk onto tv

* playback of mp3/cd into soundsystem

i've heard there's dedicated distros/software for this... am i right? also, sharing a net connection and a couple of huge disks through samba would be helpful.

Try mythtv. Probably more than you want but simply the best at what it does.

Thx for the tips, what i was looking for seems to be Freevo (the software that freevix was made to run).

Another to look at would Movix, they were working on the tv out, they may have support for it now. It boots directly from the disc, not install required.
