Linux + Artificial Intelligence

I'm using SUSE 10 and I want some sexy female voice as system sounds on KDE. It doesn't have to be the LCARS voice on Star Trek but I would like a female voice for all my KDE notification sounds.

My interest is to give my computer a some what female personality. I'm still waiting for the day that we come out with some advance AI that would let me talk and internet act with my computer and it could have a some what human female personality to it. Kind of like that computer that black dude had on Earth: Finale Conflict.

I don't know but I'm just wondering and maybe you can tell me but what kind of modern technology do we have today that I can even attempt to do all the things mentioned above.

I have a pretty old machine so voice recognition software is most likely out of the question.

And also a while back I remember playing with some software for linux and windows that created artificial microscopic organism's but as code on the machine and the software would have these things evolve in a very rapid rate then microbes do in real life. It was some research project in AI and artificial life. I lost the link but I wonder how long they've come since I last played with it.

I was just thinking, that would be neat of that data collected from that ressearch could help pave the way for AI based operating system's.

Might not be sexy or female, but I think Howie is pretty cool:

I've been after the same thing. On windows I used to use Ultra Hal from Zabaware which was brilliant. You could have a conversation with your computer, train him to find answers to stuff he doesn't know and do your computer work for you. Oh, and reminds you of birthdays and stuff too. It has to be the most advanced thing I found. Just wish there was something similar for linux.

I dunno... Way back when I had an Amiga running at 7Mhz (late '80s/early '90s), I had a voice recognition program running that I found in the freeware archives at the time. The OS also came with a speech synthesiser built in, so with a bit of careful setup, it was possible to have basic conversations with the computer.

The voice recognition program didn't parse speech or anything clever like that -- you just programmed it with a preset list of command words that it would recognise when you said them. I didn't really use it for anything practical, but it was fun to play around with.

I don't know what the current state is like in these fields of software these days, but the reason I mention it is that if it was possible back then, it must surely be possible now. If you do locate software that does the job, post it here -- I'd be interested to see what's out there.

If you find it, i'll swap my Mrs for it, sounds like less work, and i'd love to configure her with "hyper sex drive" but remove the support for "constant nagging"
