I have just installed Debian 3 onto a partition on a drive shared w/ WinXP (hda). As I am new to Linux I wanted to set LILO to boot to Windoze as default until I get my feet wet in Linux-land. I vi'd into lilo.conf and changed the default line to:
default=WinXP(hda1)
based on the lines I saw in lilo.conf that said:
other=/dev/hda1
label="WinXP(hda1)"
I then saved in vi and got out to the command line and ran lilo -v at the prompt to read the changes. Here is where I get my error:
LILO version 22.2 (yadda, yadda, yadda)
MAX_IMAGES = 27
Reading boot sector from /dev/hda
Merging with /boot/boot-menu.b
Fatal : read /dev/hda: No such file or directory
Any thoughts on where the error lies? I have tried a few more things on my own, but am at a loss. I did change the label in both from the default label LILO assigns of WinNT(hda1), but I assume that I could put almost anything in the label field, correct? Thanks for the help!

FYI, I have this same install on a tower PC and am not seeing this issue, however I am seeing it in the laptop this is installed on...a Dell C600. Don't know if that helps at all, but the change executed perfectly on the similar desktop install.
