legacy game pgm from Win98 era to debian/linux 7--is it possible???
i have a comercial game, Panzer General II, from the Win 98 era, that I like to mess with when I'm between real stuff. I ran it on XP, but I don't like Microsoft lately, and started using Debian/Linux 7. Is it possible to install it...and will it hurt the system??? Although I'm studying the system at a slow pace, I'm not a guru at all. I would run it in the GUI or from the command line, as required.

Hi. Install PlayOnLinux through your package manager then search Panzer General II in PlayOnLinux (it's an easy front for WINE) should work, other options are Virtualbox with winbows in it or configure WINE or QT4WINE (maybe DOSBox or other emulators as well) to install .exe and other m$ junk in Linux... Best wishes and have fun. :)

Might work with dosbox.
Might work on ReactOS. Wine and winetricks may work too. |
is the game 16 bit ? or 32 bit ?
xp had a 16 bit compatibility mode one that win7 64 bit dose not have and i am not sure about wine and 16 bit programs |
You may also find some Linux alternatives or clones like LGeneral or Open-Panzer... I've also seen many other games like this although names don't come to mind, sorry.
