Leap second, prepared ?

Hi all.

I have some redhat servers 5.8 and some debian servers with 6.0.7.

all of them sync with one of the redhat server which sync with some servers at redhat 0-...1.rhel.pool.ntp.org

how could I make sure these servers will refresh and take the leap second?. I have been reading that this should be automatically if they are using NTP... but I would like to know if there is a way to double check it.

how could I know if my linux flavor and version are vulnerable?I read there were some linux crashing back in 2012 after the leap second.. I know I run old releases but it is what we were told to install by the vendor..

thanks

There has yet to be a leap second that's been handled properly by NTP, so I doubt it will all be seamless. You shouldn't experience any crashing, but it might take a day or so for the second to get accounted for and the systems to all re-sync.

From the wikipedia article:
Quote:
It has been reported that never, since the monitoring began in 2008 and whether or not a leap second should be inserted, have all NTP servers correctly set their flags on a December 31 or June 30. This is one reason many NTP servers broadcast the wrong time for up to a day after a leap second insertion
