i bought a external monitor recently..
(which of course supports higher resolution than laptop lcd)
problem is i can't use that higher resolution with the new monitor..
(i have to modify xf86config-4, to inform my machine which monitor i'm gonna use)
i've read some people successed selecting either laptop lcd or external monitor with hot keys such as Fn - f7
i'm using vaio fx170.. and the key combination is Fn-f7..
problem is that even my Fn key is recognized by my machine..
i downloaded xkeycaps and tested it with various keyboards. but i couldn't find one which recognizes Fn key..
i even tried sourceforge.net sonyfxd program..
but no luck..... (since Fn-key is not recognized, how can any program modify how it works)
i'vent slept for long time,, i'm so tired..
any laptop user had succeded to get a higher resolution with external monitor??
you've already asked this same question (albeit slightly differently) ni another thread, can youplease keep to one thread. thanks
generally, you've only got one video card, so i very much doubt you can really tell X to do what you want. I've no great experience with laptops but i'd think that maybe you can just turn off the lcd in your bios setup?
