laptop graphics config yields small display

I installed Fedore Core 4 on a thinkpad laptop. What the graphics display shows does not fill the entire screen. It is centered, but it is small. It is at 800x600 with generic video card and monitor. I use the command system-config-display and have tried multiple configurations. The screen just goes black and I have to recover.

I am teaching a class soon and I don't want to use Windows powerpoint. Does somebody know what I can do to get the display to fill the whole screen.

Thanks

What exact model do you have? Chances are it's listed on Linux-On-Laptops. Go there and see what X configurations people use - you will most likely find a host of different example files or excerpts.

Thanks for the links. These links helped me to realize that this laptop is just not really a good fit for this presentation. It is an 1171 iSeries Thinkpad. I am going to work on getting a different laptop. Thanks,
