LAMP server - which flavour Linux: Fed or CentOS?
Hi,
Asking a question for a friend. He wants to set up a LAMP server and has a choice of Linux distros on which to set up the server. Fedora or CentOS ? Why would one be better at the job than the other ? Instinctively I would say Fedora just because of the volume of support and documentation available but could CentOS be more efficient at the job ? I've never used CentOS so any info would be useful for me as well. Thanks ! Uncle |
Tough call, they could both do it well. I'd recommend CentOS, as LAMPS is essentially 1/2 of its reason for existing. It is a clone of a largely server OS.

The documentation for Fedora or Redhat applies to CentOS as well because CentOS is based on Redhat which in turn is based on Fedora. I personally would choose CentOS, but this is because I like running stable OSes for important servers. For testing out stuff, Fedora wouldn't be a bad choice.
