keyboard wont work on install!!!
I have Redhat 9 installed on my laptop and it works great. Now I am trying to put it on my desktop but during the install the keyboard doesnt work. When the install screen first comes up (when you can give parameters to the boot loader) the keyboard works(i can give parameters and press enter for the install to begin). But when it asks me the first question,"do you want to test your install media or skip it?", the lights on the keyboard go off(numlock) and nothing works at all. btw, the mouse doesnt work then either.
Try using a standard ps2 keyboard and mouse during the install and see if that helps. If you don't have one to borrow then buy one and then return it after you know it is working with your usb keyboard while linux is running. I had a similar problem with a wireless keyboard/mouse and got around the problem using the above method.

Yeah I thought about that and I am going to try it but the mouse is ps2 and it doesnt work either...wait does the mouse even work in install?>I cant remember.
Yes it does if you are using the gui but if the usb keyboard is causing you problems during install then maybe it is also causing your problems with the mouse. Try the ps2 keyboard along with your mouse, things should go smoothly, but if for some strange reason it still does then you might check settings in your bios or more sadly problems with your mobo. The best bet is to try a ps2 keyboard with your ps2 mouse and hope that you can install with no problems.

I used a ps2 keyboard and the install went smoothly. But how do I get the usb keyboard to work?? When I boot up it recognizes it but cant configure it...it keeps saying request timed out. And if I try to view my usb components in the information center it doesnt do anything, it just sits there with the sand hour glass thing for the mouse and i have to kill the window. Somebody please help, i cant keep the ps2 keyboard.
Maybe it only supports certain brands/types of wireless keyboards and mice. You can also buy some adapters for the usb cables to change them to ps2 so that you can plug them into the ps2 ports using your usb cables instead of connecting them directly to usb ports. If that doesn't work I don't know what else to tell you. Good Luck and hopefully you won't be forced into buying another brand of or other keyboard and mouse.

thanks for the reply statyk.
Note: my keyboard is not wireless.
Well if i go get the usb to ps2 connector that solves the keyboard problem. But what if i want to plug something else into a usb port, i still cant do that. Does anybody how to fix problems with usb on redhat 9.
I've had something similar happening. I'm on a laptop and I knoticed while I was installing RH9.0 that my usb mouse would just cut out for no reason. All I had to do was unplug and replugin but that gets annoying. Then after I had it all intalled while I was at a Gnome desktop typing away in a terminal window all of a sudden the keyboard cut out the same way. I can't really unplug and replugin the built in keyboard very well. I was wondering if anyone had seen this before. My mouse is a Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1A USB w/PS/2 compatibilty. I can run my mouse on PS/2 but what about the keyboard. Any suggestions?
