Keyboard stops working on bootup

My keyboard is fine at startup of the computer. Fine to make a selection in LiLO, but then once everything runs through and presents me with a login (outside of X), it won't respond.

It is a Fellowes keyboard with multimedia keys, I throw on my Belkin at startup with multimedia keys and it works fine - only the Fellowes messes up, and it does it with just about every single distro installation. The problem, now, is - it is doing it to me in Kate. It has never done it to me with any other distribution after the installation. Any advice? It isn't a problem in the xorg.conf, either :/

Would this happen to be a USB keyboard? Perhaps this keyboard needs special drivers to work properly or to be recognized.
