keyboard key hold prob in GNOME

any one know how I can make gnome not ignore the fact
that I'm trying to to hold down a key in order to type that
key many times?
I mean when I hold down the 'g' key I want
to get: "ggggggggggg" where as in gnome I get only one 'g'!
I tried to change the prefrences but the delay is still to large.
any ideas?

(hope I made the prob clear enough :-) )
Thanks in advance, NGraphix
