Question keyboard command

hello,
er, isnt there a combination of keyboard strokes that will drop
linux from runlevel 5 (xwindow) to runlevel 3 (text command line)?
like alt/ctrl/esc or something? thanks for any help. i want to try
sndconfig from runlevel 3 to see if that helps with getting my soundcard working. i've seen comments in this forum and in rh 8.0
documentation that sndconfig needs to be done on runlevel 3.

Sounds like you got the help you needed but it sounds like you might have been thinking of Ctrl-Alt-F(n) if you've started X from the command line. That'll take you back to a command line while X is still running and (in my case) Ctrl-Alt-F8 takes me back to X.

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace kills X, but it's better to exit normally if possible.
