Keyboard and mouse events
Hello, I have two questions. I am grouping them in one topic because they are somewhat along the same lines, though not exactly:
First, I have a Logitech MX510 mouse, connected via USB, which works almost perfectly. However, I would like to enable the two thumb buttons so that I can either use them in games, etc. I tried pressing them while I had xev running, with the mouse pointer inside the detection box, and no events were detected, though the other mouse buttons and mousewheel were all detected just fine. I have Option "Buttons" "7" and Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" set in my xorg.conf file; what additional configuration is required? On the same subject, I would like to know how to set my mouse precision to the max of 800; I hear it's at 400 by default, and I game a lot. Second question: I want to know if there is a way to manipulate keyboard events. Specifically, I want to change the keyboard so that the right Shift and Alt keys do the exact same thing as the left Ctrl and Alt keys; I have no need for a "Right and "Left" Ctrl and Alt key; just the left will do. Ideally, any solution would be both "up to date" and affect both CLI and X in one fell swoop. Otherwise, I'd like to know the simplest way to affect both individually. I already know about xmodmap, but this only seems to affect X according to man xmodmap -- I want to know if there's a better way. I'm running Slackware 10.1, let me know if any further info is required. |

As far as I can tell, the copy of X I have doesn't have evdev enabled, and I am NOT up to building X from scratch... is there any other solution that would work for me?
