I am currently running rh 7.0. Have been able to successfully compile the newest kernel. Question is, how do I compile the included kernel (2.2.16) When I compile the new one, I make a /usr/src/linux structure. Upon installing, there is no /linux. Where is the make file to compile it?? Yes, let the ignorance run amuk....I know

Well, if you complied the new one in the same location as the old one, it over wrote the old one as far as know. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

kernel compile

/usr/src/linux is just a link to another directory in /usr/src usually.

If you install the 2.4 kernel source via tarball, it wont mess anything up in most cases because it will be in a separate directory. BUT.. if you did an rpm upgrade from what came with Redhat v7.0, then you might have uninstalled the kernel sources and headers for 2.2.16
