Kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:01

Hello. I was running a stable version of linux. In the next day, i inserted the extraible disk and i receive this last 3 lines:

FAT: bogus logical sector size 27648

sh-2021: reiserfs_read_super: cant not find reiserfs on ide0(3,1)

Kernel panic : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:01

Could anybody have an idea of what is happening?

If i enter the system with a rescue disk/cd what should i do to recover the system?

Thanks.

whats an extraible disk ???

seems to me like you either instaled a kernel wihout support for your file system,
or you are missing the root=/dev/hd(wherever your root is) parameter in the grub config file.

or maybe the file system IS corrupt ?

what file system are you using ?
what distro ?
what kernel version ?

use a rescue disk or knoppix, and see if you can mount your root file system.

I'm using Slackware 9.1 with the default kernel (2.4.22)
I installed the filesystem with ext3.

The system was working pretty well until this 'RARE' success.

I put the removable drive (sorry, not extraible) this morning, and it didnt work anymore... SOMETHING broked something.

I dont know what, since the installation and performance were good until today.

What are the steps that i should do to repair? maybe fsck? anyother utility? thx.
