kernel panic trying to bood fedora core 3
please help,
i was having troubles with my computer so i decieded to just reformat/partition it and start over now when i try to boot my computer locks while loading stage 1 of grub (somethimes it automattically restarts too.) if i put grub on a floppy and boot through the grub command line like so: root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuzwhateverthefilenameis initrd /boot/initrdwhatevertheflilenameis boot then it will boot untill these last few lines: mounting root filesystem mount: error 6 mounting ext3 mount : error 2 mounting none switching to new root switchroot: mount failed: 22 umount /initrd/dev failed: 2 kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init! if anyone can help, that would be great, if you want more info, just ask |
it looks like it's trying to access partitions that don't exist, or have the wrong format. / partition type. doubke check the layout of the drive partition tables, posting the output of fdisk -l if possible. (try using a bootdisk like knoppix, or fedora as a rescue disk to access the system)
