Kernel panic-not syncing:Attempted to kill init
Hi folks,
I'm having a problem in booting after I installed a new kernel 2.6.18. My distro is Fedora core 5. I'm currently using 2.6.17.6 kernel. The new kernel (2.6.18) compilation went on smoothly, but on booting , its showing up like this
"
uncompressing ... ok
mount:could not find file system. '/dev/root'
setuproot: moving /dev failed. No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc. No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /sys. No such file or sirectory
switchroot:mount failed: No such file or directory
[2:055561] kernel panic-not syncing:Attempted to kill init !! "
What could be wrong?????
My old kernel is booting on smoothly,, but why not the new one.
When I compile a new kernel from the kernel I got with the distro, its working fine.
like my distro kernel is 2.6.15_FC5. when I compile any kernel running 2.6.15_fC5, everything works fine
Say, I got upgraded to 2.6.16, from the distro kernel. After that if I tried compiling a new kernel, it won't boot. I'm getting the error I mentioned above..
Please help me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can I fix this?????
