Talking kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel

SEARCH wasn't working when I posted this thread but now it is, sorry if this bothers anyone
A bit of a long story, I've had a duel boot system running Debian on one hard drive & Ubuntu on another drive for some time w/o a problem.

I went to install another 128mb memory chip the other day & it wasn't recognizing it. I reseated the memory & restarted the computer & upon seeing the memory was still not being recognized I pulled the power plug on the system. Debian was in the early stages of booting during this time & I may have repeated this cycle a couple of times in this manner.

What I can't figure out is in an attempt to fix the issue I have have installed a hard drive that has never had Linux on it, it is the only connected drive in the system & I have gone back to the original known good memory configuration & as I attempt to install Debian on this drive a little bit into the install I get - ( I will quote a bit here)

RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
Freeing initrd memory: 2911k freed
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Mounted devfs on /dev
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Trying to move old root to /initrd ... okay
Mounted devfs on /dev
Freeing unused kernel memory: 96k freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.

I've used Debian for quite a while in the past but I'm no expert by any means. I'd love to know where this kernel panic is coming from or get any suggestions on how to proceed.

Is your current ram being correctly detected in your bios setup? If not, go back and reseat your ram sticks. If it is, try running memtest to thoroughly check the ram. This really sounds like a hardware problem more than anything else. Also, double check your settings in your bios setup and make sure plug 'n play is disabled.
