kernel panic after compilation

Hello folks,
I'm running FC5 on 2.6.17.1 kernel. My laptop is having scsi combo drive. Unfortunately I hadn't compiled the scsi modules perviously with the kernel. So I compiled the same kernel with scsi support included. The compilation went fine and I finally did run the " make install" and I hope it made changes to the /boot/ too.

But, after I restarted the computer, something strange is occuring... The screen shows

///

Uncompressing Linux..... Ok, booting the kernel

[42949379.600000] wistron_btns: system unknown
Red Hat nash version 5.0.32 starting

mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root'

setuproot: moving /dev failed. No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc failed. No such file or directory

setuproot: error mounting /sys failed. No such file or directory

[42949381.090000]kernel panic. Not syncing..Attempted to kill init!
[42949381.090000]

////

I ve included all the previously selected modules...
What could be wrong. I'm not even able to boot my system. I can't even enter the sigle user mode. hen also same problems are occuring

Please help me out!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx in advance

I guess you got something wrong in the kernel conf which cause this error. maybe a typo or something, this happened to me in FreeBSD.
Anyhow, try using the rescue mode and reinstalling the kernel from there using the rpm package on the cd.

Make sure the drivers for your scsi are compiled directly into the kernel and not as modules. Also make sure you have the appropriate filesystem directly compiled in and not as modules

ya ,,I have compiled the modules directly into the kernel..
This is for the second time I'm having such a problem.

The problem is ,if I did compile a new kernel running from the standard kernel which I got from distro DVD,, its showing no probelms....
But I'm not able to have a successful second attempt,,, either I did compilation on the same kernel or newly downloaded one..

Somebody please tell me, how can I restore the kernel, by running rescue. In rescue mode, the /dev/ directory is not showing my cdrom drive. So how will I mount cd?? and restore kernel????

I'm using AMD sempron mobile processor,, whether I should choose i586 or i686 rpm???
