Kernel compiling: any links to explain all the "make xconfig" parameters?
 

Is there any website or place where there is an exhaustive list of all the options and explanations for the parameters in "make xconfig" utility for the kernel?

I know that make xconfig has some help text for each option, but more explanations are sometimes needed to choose the right options and modules.

There's usually more information in the documentation directory under the source tree.

Generally speaking, if you don't know what it is, you don't need it. Now this approach will almost always break something, so keep your previous kernel to boot into and figure out what option you needed. ;)

Or just click on the "Help" section of each option, usually pretty descriptive on what it does, etc.

I believe the OP was looking for information in addition to the help button ...

What I was looking for is something more than just "help". Some sort of a guide where there are a lot of explanations and also some details about why certain things need to be compiled as a module as opposed to being compiled "into" a kernel and so on and how to get the best out of your system with certain parameters.

I ask this because when I compiled my own 2.6.10 kernel in Slackware, though everything works fine, I noticed a considerable speed decrease compared to when I booted into the system with 2.4.26.

I was curious as to where we do the optimizations and so on and how to enable certain options that might speed up the system.
