kernel and gaming

In the gentoo linux install instructions it says that there are specially patched kernels for gaming. I was just wondering where could i get this "gaming kernel" source for slack 9 (i've got to update my profile). Or if there are patches for gaming (how do you patch kernel source??). Or what kernel version is the best for gaming?

A mate of mine gave the gentoo gaming sources a try but they broke some things and he reckons that the games he plays ran just the same under the normal kernel.

I play games too, and they run faster in linux than under Win2K anyway, so I'm not that moved to try them.

If you really wanted to use the gentoo gaming kernel though, you could just download it to your slack box and compile/use it there. I dont see any reason why it shouldn't work.
