kernel 2.6 for desktop

ok i know the lates kernel is sooooooooooooooo great that can handle up to 32 processors running over the clock........
wow...................................
great

now

do we desktop home user need such a thing?

what do the latest kernel 2.6 can do to desktop users like me
(i'm currently downloading)

most of the news talking about the power of 2.6 running 32 processors.

how about we desktop users with normal 1 CPU, 1 GPU, and etc can take advantage of kernel 2.6?

When ever I played an movie with mplayer with kernel 2.4, I would get shakey images. Like frames were getting lost or something like that. Just a little, most of the time you would hardly notice it. But with the 2.6 kernel, all movie's run very smooth.
That's one advantage I have experienced. Also, we don't have to use ide-scsi emulation any more for our cd burners to work.
