KDE, Debian-sarge, Sound volume controll???

ok i probably spelled volume wrong, but i hope you understand what im after. i am running the latest vs of KDE that you can get via apt-get my sound card is an older SBLive Values card and using debian-sarge as my distro of choice.

Is there a way to controll the system wide sound level like in windows? for what ever reason when i use XMMS to listen to my MP3s i have to have it cranked up at around 50-70% just to hear anything. under windows i had to turn winamp all the way down to 3-5% so i could still hear what is going on outside my office.

i have looked around and the only thing i can find that deals with the sound is the controll center, but that does nothing for the level of the sound, just what kind of sound and what hardware.

detailed instructions please im still semi new to linux world when working with details like this.

Thank you.

Take a look at Kmix.

Undeer KDE you have a thing called kmix. Should be in yor menu
in the multimedia part, or on that little icon on the systemtray.
If you can't find it, right-click on desktop>run application>kmix
Also u have some other mixers you can use: aumix aumix-gtk alsamixer alsamixergui (...)
choose one
