KDE crashes.. linux no longer boots

fresh install of slackware9.. startx fails.. i dont know where the x86 logs are.

in any case, i have to hit the switch to reboot, i try to get back into linux. a check is forced because the drive wasnt properly unmounted. it does three inode fixes and then just hangs.

windows may crash a lot, but at least you can reboot, run scandisk, and be back in the OS!

any ideas on how to resolve this?

Try booting from the CD and settings mount root=/dev/xxx, where xxx is the name and number of your partition, such as hda1 or hda2.
Then you can do a reinstall...

Another option would be to mount root=/dev/hdxx at the boot prompt and then run:
e2fsck -v -y /dev/hdxx
Donno...

=[

the system hangs when i run that command. during the first pass, it fixes 2 inodes and then hangs. cant change consoles, cant ctrl-alt-del, can only hard reboot.

could my harddrive be bad? i have a 3gb windows partition that works flawlessly. drive is ~7gb total

slack installer cd hangs like this if i try to use the ADDSWAP install option. i had to do the manual mkswap;sync;swapon just to get past that step.
