KDE, compose key, and xkb problems

Hey People,

I am having some serious problems with KDE. A little while ago I had set it up to use the compose key through the configuration menu: Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Layout, and then the xkb options tab. And the compose key was not working that well for me at all; I left it on anyways. And then I noticed that I could not su to root anymore; I thought somebody hacked my box, but it turns out that my password was getting mangled as I typed it in. And this never happened before. For instance, if I type in a quote, it waits for a second character before printing something (prints an a with an accent), even if I do not type the compose key -- it is as if the compose key is always on. So I disabled the compose key and xkb options completely, and I STILL have the same problem. Anybody have any suggestions?
