KDE-3.0 install on RH-7.0
well after watching all of u guys screenshots (in that other thread) i almost felt a need to upgrade my kde
too(it's 1.1.2).....so here i m on a RH7.0 system with downloaded kde packages (atleast all the required packages as given on their site,namely- kdelib, kdebase & aRts) .....aRts was installed without any problem.....but the installing kdelib gives error ,they needed qt-3.0!!!....so i downloaded rpm's for it......here it goes.... root$rpm -Uvh qt-3.0.3-5.i386.rpm error: failed dependencies: libcrypto.so.2 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libcups.so.2 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libfreetype.so.6 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libmng.so.1 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libssl.so.2 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libXft.so.1 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libXrender.so.1 is needed by qt-3.0.3-5 libqt.so.2 is needed by switchdesk-kde-3.6-1 libqt.so.2 is needed by isdn-config-0.17-7 libqt.so.2 is needed by qt-devel-2.2.0-0.5.beta2 libqutil.so.1 is needed by qt-devel-2.2.0-0.5.beta2 now on searching for libcrypto.so.2 ,i m led to download openssl which again gives some dependancies error(it seems like that they are needed for many programs already installed on my system).....what do i need to do ???......pls help.....i desperately want to post my screenshot too(r there consolations awards too).... :) |
And the Question of the Day award goes to *drum rolls* A-dummy! *applause*
It's a vicious cycle, isn't it? The safest and easiest way is to get Redhat 7.3. |
ok man.....sure u can laugh...everyone laughs on a poor person :( ......anyway thanks for the
suggestion....i was myself thinking abt getting 7.3...... |
The problem with updating to qt-3.0 is that in addition to the dependencies for qt-3.0.3, there are a number of programs that need qt-2.* to run ex.
Quote:
1) get all the dependencies for qt-3.0. 2) Remove all the KDE-1.1.2 files that are installed, ex. kdelibs, kbecore, etc... 3) This might not be the best idea, but maybe try to install qt-3.0.3 as -ivh rather than an Update. This way you will have both qt-2.* to run programs that need it, and will have qt-3.0.3 to have kde-3.0.2 4) Then install the kde-3.0.2 rpm's. I don't use RedHat, so these are just some suggestions, and will not necessarly work. This is exactly why I don't like to use rpm's, because of the dependancy hell that you might get. |
but is not it this that even if we compile from sources (instead of rpm's) we'll still get dependancy
error......anyway ,thanks for the suggestion of installing (not upgrading) the rpms....i will try it..... |
