Just for FUN! How would you...
Just recently Lilo and Stich hit the big screen and I got my second tast of difference in punctuation. So, I was curious which punctuation do you prefer????
Lie Low Lin Nux vs Lee Low Lie Nux I use Lie Low and Lin Nux. What about the rest of you? :) Cheers |
I pronounce LILO as leelow, and linux as it must be pronounced http://www.linux.org/info/sounds/english.au
|
hasn't this already been beaten to death somewhere around here?
i usually use lie low and lin ucks - occasionally i say lee nucks.
|
Oh, god! Not another one!
My pronunciation guide: Linux = Lin Ucks Lilo = Lie Low MySQL = My Squirrel PostgreSQL = Post Grey Squirrel Mandrake = Man Dee SuSE = Soo Zee Any others? |
/dev = death
:D |
lame ass thread
|
Hey Relix, if it's so lame why did you read it and post to it?
I say linux = lih nux lilo = lie low |
Quote:
I say lin ucks and lie low. In the UK everyone I meet seems to call linux Lie Nux for some reason though. |
I say Linux very similar to Linus' orginal version (using Polish pronounciation, fortunatelly it's correct there).
LILO in Polish - like 'Lee Lo' ('lo' like in 'London'), in English I prefer 'leelow' |
Wow, I guess since most of us don't get to talk to each other, just type, we never really get to hear how each other pronounces things. ;)
Here's mine: Linux = LIN(win, sin, and gin all sound alike) Uh (as in duh) X LILO = LEE LOW (rhymes with crow-the bird, and joe-the text editor) pico = PEE K Oh (as in doh like homer) SuSE = Sue Ssss (like a snake) java = ja wa Just for fun Cool (K oo (as in drool) l) |
hmm never really thought about it.
but here I go Linux = at one point (Ly Nuts) then Later (Len ucks) but maybe I will change to (Lin Nux) LILO = Lye Low SuSe = Sues eey Windows = Slow Death By torture of not expanding the possibillities of using your mind and having no control to exterminate bugs without calling the exterminator. Sorry thought I would throw that in, even though I still do use windows |
PostreSQL - Post gress - cue - ell
If you pronounce it "Postgress - sequel" then you're almost certainly an American. SeQueL came out after SQL which was IBM's contribution to 4th gen languages in the 1970s for System R (I think). Yes, SeQueL is easier to say but in that case please be consistent and call it HuTMuL instead of "Haych - Tee - Em - El".:p Bert Linnucks Lye -low (I like the poolside inflatable analogy that's why) |
Actually I pronounce that one:
HTML = HIT MAIL Oh and: SCSI = SKUZZ EEE |
Hitmail? Really? Do other people know what you mean?
|
ha ha ha ha, sure, because anyone who I would say "hitmail" to would actually read it rather than hear it. I am the geekiest person I know, so I don't get to hear anyone say anything other than "Chad, can you come over and fix my computer, I will buy you some pizza".
