Japanese Input

I need to input Japanese text without setting the language default to Japanese (i.e. it needs to remain American English). I found a page that describes exactly what I need to do, but it's for SUSE, and I'm running RH9. Can anybody tell me what file to put the script in other than .xim (which doesn't exist in RH)?

Also, would it be possible to enable Russian input as well as Japanese input without changing the language default from American English?

Hi,

In Redhat 9, the SUSE .xim may be something like .i18n, and you can
try to copy LC_xxxx to the file ~/.i18n (you might have to create a new
one).
I think it might be what you want to do.

Actually, there's a file called gtki18n. But it doesn't seem to be the right one.
