whitebox 3 very very simple install. if you can install windows you can install whitebox.
basicaly what it is is RedHat without the price tag. RHE (enterprise edition) is a fee of roughly $700 for the support service that RH is now providing.
go there and get the 3 CDs. you can really get away with just the 1, but it makes life easier to just have all 3 CDs and do a full GUI install with all the programs you need/want to install.
I see no reason to get an enterprise linux for personal use, but that is just me.
My Analysis:
Mandrake: Use it if you just want it to work, want variety and a lot of Graphical tools, but don't mind shelling out for Mandrake Club (20 a month). Strictly speaking you can get and use mandrake for free, but the free version sucks in my mind.
SUSE: Just want it to work and like KDE
Fedora: Just want it to work and like GNOME
Gentoo: If you want to completely customize your box and learn a lot about linux at the expense of having moments of extreme stress.
Debian: If you like ulcers or will have a guru set it up for you.
whitebox is baicaly RH9, and i like RH9 way better then i do the FC line that i have seen. that is why i recomend it. heck if you do a base install with only the first CD, then yum your x-server and either kde or gnome you will have a very light OS but will have patch/security, and what not support for the next several years from RH, indirectly, for free.
