Is there a linux featurephone project?

I just bought an HTC Typhoon phone (Windows Mobile 2003), partially because there's a Linux port for it and I thought that would be fun to play with.

My question is, is there any open source project I can build+run to get the phone to work like a featurephone?

That is to say, like a basic low-end Nokia/Samsung/LG/whatever and not like a Palm/Windows/Blackberry PDA.

I know Qtopia and GPE are targeting phones but their software seems much too sophisticated and memory/processor intensive for a basic phone with a small screen/keypad.

Would anybody else be interested in a basic little open source software package for these devices...?
