is there a command that will list all running services

i know that there is already a command for it but it comes out with a lot of letters that makes it hard to find the services that are running

i'm talking about services like DNS, APACHE, DHCP, SAMBA, SSH etc

is there a command that will list these services and related services that are running instead of showing a bunch of jumbled and lettered mess thats hard to comprehend

Sure. "chkconfig --list" is one Pop Favorite. There are other alternatives, too

Q: What command are you referring to?
Q: What do you mean by "jumbled"? Are your terminal characteristics messed up? Or you just don't like text?

A possible command is:

Code:
netstat -Ainet,inet6 --listening -p
This will show all processes listening on network ports, and the process number/name (will need to be run as root, or with sudo, for the process to be resolved properly).

The command you want is netstat. Run the --help switch to see all the switches. I believe the one you want is:

Code:
$ netstat -nlt
This shows listening tcp services on the local machine.
