Exclamation Maybe bad news..

I don't want to make you all worried or anything, but usually the rule with linux and modems is that if the box your modem came in has a sticker or something saying "Made For Windoze95" then it won't work..

Forgive me if I have got anything wrong.. I'm not that clever.

This isn't a limitation on linux's part, in fact it's the modem itself..

External Hayes Accura modems and others have a small piece of hardware that cheap Win95 modems don't, and it's called a processor or something jargon-like. Basically the difference is that when windows sends some data to and fro a 'Real' modem, the driver doesn't tell the computers processor to cut up the data into manageable chunks, it just pipes the data to it 'uncontrolled'.

But when a Win95 modem is use, the driver for it has to tell the computer that it has to 'spoonfeed' the data in question to the modem.

The drivers that were built to do this are copyrighted closed source code, linux programmers aren't allowed to touch it. Therefore Linux won't use cheapo Win95 modems that would only slow your internet/computing experience anyhow..

Look on the internet and look at creatives site, once your finally baffled with finding a driver, buy an external serial modem like a Hayes and I will be suprised if it doesn't work!!

It should be faster too.
