is i386 iso image suitable for AMD processor?
i had download the fedora linux and try to install to my machine...but it comes out an error message something like "it fails b'cos of the hardware problem" when the first CD still in progress.
so, i'm thinking of is it this i386 iso image just suitable for intel but not AMD?? |
That seems a bit unlikely. That type of message is a bit more likely associated with a RAM concern. Can you post more hardware info?

i386 binaries work fine with AMD CPUs, so if you're having problems, it's not because of that. Please post the actual error messages you're getting and maybe we can help out.

h/w info:
AMD athlon 900 Mhz processor Abit motherboard with VIA chipset (support SATA) kingston 256Mb DDR 266 ram Quantum fireball 10Gb HD (IDE) Seagate 80Gb HD (SATA) Yamaha CDRW actually i want to install redhat linux 9 on the SATA HD, then i find tat the stupid linux kernel dun regconise my SATA HD (it said no hard disk was found)...i know kernel 2.6 is support SATA feature but i dun know how to compile the kernel without any OS on the hard disk. so, i change my mind and try to install the linux on IDE hard disk, it has come out a warming like this below before start installing. "the partition table on /dev/hda is inconsistent, linux detected BIOS geometry incorrectly. it is safe to ignore, but ignoring may cause problem with some boot loaders & may cause problems with FAT file system. using LBA is recommended." in the half way of installing linux, it come out an eeror message like this "there was an error installing openoffice.org-il8n-1.1.0-2. this can indocate media failure, lack of disk space, or hardware problems. Please verify ur media and try ur install again." |
I'm not sure exactly what those errors mean, but it may help to repartition the drive if possible. If nothing else important is on your IDE drive, you can start over with a fresh partition table and newly-formatted partitions; the Linux installer should give you the option to do this during installation.
If you've already tried that, then I'm not sure... |
no problem

is ok, i think is the CD problem b'cos it can install when i unselect the openoffice.org-il8n-1.1.0-2...i will try to get another CDs and test it out.
