IRC serving

i want to start serving in some of the irc chat channels i visit. I have no idea how to and getting anyone in IRC to help me and know what they are doing is hard. Has anyone had any experiance in doing this or know how to do it? Setting up an Fserve on a linux box. I heard its pretty easy in windows but there is no way i am exposing my unsecure windows box to irc.
so i would like to know:
what programs to use
how to use them
or
a really good tutorial on how to do it.

thanks!

Once I tried to find something similar but I couldn't find anything.

I'd suggest you to use mIRC with WINE.
