"invalid module format"

On recompiling a 2.6.6 kernel i now receive the error "invalid module format" whenever I attempt to load any module. (modprobe or insmod )

I am using module-init-tools v3 and I did have my kernel working great until the last recompile.

Any ideas?

solved, the problem went away when I removed the "experimental code" option in menuconfig.

My problem was that the kernel (2.6.7.0.rc2.1-mdksmp) was compiled with gcc-3.3.2, but I had the cooker gcc-3.4 compiler installed. Everything compiles... but the module won't load, with "invalid module format". Backing down to the 3.3.2 RPMs solved the problem!
