Hmm - is it a UDF (packet-written) disk? Are you sure you have UDF support compiled into your kernel? IMO all optical file systems should be enabled in all kernels, but maybe you have a kernel which does not have this compiled in / active...??
I had this type of problem with Fedora Core 6's stock kernel which, for some reason, had no CIFS (samba) file system support compiled in, which meant I could not access / mount Windows shares with Samba. I also got an invalid filesystem error, I think. I then recompiled my kernel and put CIFS support in it - maybe you can do something similar, only add UDF support and all the other filing systems you can find mentioned?
