Interrupt Device Drivers

Does anyone know what they actually do or what type of thing you would use them for?
Are there any articles on this that anyone's aware of?

Thanks,
Perdix.

I have found quite a good link for anyone who might find this useful;

O'Reilly Linux Device Drivers, 2nd Edition
