Internships for a young Penguin

I know Linux Questions is mostly centered around technical questions but I am currently looking for an internship and I would love to be able to work with Linux, although this seems to be very hard. Microsoft seems to populate the job market almost as much as they populate the security advisory feeds.

Can anyone give me any pointers on how to go about finding a Linux oriented internship? Possible companies? Websites?

Thanks!!

I'm guessing your a college student. Internships are a great experience and perfect of students to work and gain knowledge while still in school. I myself am working as an Intern, Java Development to be exact. We don't have anyone termed "Linux Intern" or even "The Linux Guy". You would probably need to be a security person or a networking person. Generally those are Linux gurus, like in the case of my job.

The best thing to do is look around at school. Ask your teachers if they know of anything, sometimes they do. Next, just find a website that deals with your local area. They are bound to have some kind of job search.

Good luck!

Chris

Thanks man! In your experience, what do companies look for? G.P.A.? Leadership experience? Past experience?

For an Internship, your desire to learn. They don't really look for the guy with the best GPA, they want someone who really wants to learn the field. The way most places think is this, hiring a college student that is studying to become an IT professional is great for them. That would make them have a prime young employee straight out of school. They can teach you everything now while your not making alot (compared to what you would get after graduating college). For both parties it's a win win situation.
