Internet on Linux

Sir,
I have Fedora-7 on my PC.
There is internet connection to my PC without MODEM through
LAN cable directly from server.
Internet is working properly in Window XP on same PC.
But it is not working in Fedora-7.
How should i start it in Fedora-7?

If your using DHCP-server to assign addresses Linux should pretty automatically get the address.

You can manually try to check if you can get a address:
Code:
dhclient eth0
Check also does it find your network card using ifconfig, dmesg, lspci etc.

Hello,

I would first look if your connection is working properly. Why don't you try a
Code:
ping www.linuxquestions.org
If you have something like this
Quote:
64 bytes from web2.linuxquestions.org (64.179.4.146): icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=112ms
then your connection to the world is fine.

I definitely expect that you will receive an error message with your ping command. First, you should check your connection settings
Code:
system-config-network
You might just need to activate your connection, and make sure that it start on boot up.

If a connection is active, then you might have a
Quote:
proxy
problem. You will then have to check with your internet provider, or system administrator (the guy from the help desk), to see if what your proxy might be.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
