Installing WinXP and Mandrake

Hallo!
I have this problem: can't install winXP with mandrake.

history
In the begin it was win2000.
Then I installed mandrake 9.1.
It was ok.

Win2000 got a terrible virus.
I wanted to install winXP.
I deleted all the partions using the winXP installation CD.
I create two partions for winXP e left space free for linux.

I installed xp on the first partition.
But after installation, xp can't start. it appears a blue scrren with a message and error 0x24.

I installed win2000 e mandrake and it worked.
So I tried again to install xp (I formatted the partion C: before) and failed again.

what could be problem:
why doesnt xp start? (it doesn't start with or withou mandrake)

thank you

Try starting XP in Safe mode. It could be that you are missing an essential device driver. Do Start-->Run--?eventvwr to see recent error messages.

If you have an onboard and a pci/agp graphices card, try removing the pci/agp card and rebooting. Then try removing as much hardware as possible and reinstalling.

I am no expert but what i would do is get a setup disk to suit your particular drive eg(seagate, maxtor or whatever ) you can download from drive manufacturer website, from a friends computer. Then do a x out of entire drive that is write a x to all of drive then reboot with disk in drive and format drive then install XP if it works use partition magic to make free space then install Mandrake. I am thinking along the lines the virus you had maybe isn't all gone and the x out might overwrite it the boot sector and all.
