installing video card driver....

guys, I'm trying to install video card driver, which I downloaded from manufacturer, and after I exist the x-server, I run the install, but it stop, so I installed gcc, kernel-devel, tried it again, and didn't finish. This is Fedora. Besides GCC, and kernel-devel, is there anything else I need for installation.

thanks

Enlighten us with better details.
Although I have not installed Fedora since "7", traditionally it was better to install Nvidia through repositories.
This guy also used to always give great guidance, top right side of the page are links to other versions of Fedora.

I'm using one of the commands on that page, "the last one," but I'm getting (unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel)

for fedora USE FEDORA's rpm in yum

otherwise you MUST reinstall mesa that nvidia's driver overwrote
Code:
yum install akmod-nvidia
see the fedora user guide or the fedorafourm help page
F12,F11 & F10 Nvidia driver guides
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752

for ati cards there is a opensource driver already installed .

(unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel)
This is more than likely caused by not having the same kernel-devel package version installed matching the current running kernel. By typing: uname -ra in a terminal you will see the exact version of the current running kernel, all numbers in it's version should be exactly the same in the name of the kernel-devel package.
But...
As mentioned, it is better to use yum to install from repositories.
Fedora is a testing platform and is constantly evolving, the kernel keeps getting upgrade to a newer version. If you choose to install the Nvidia.run file downloaded from Nvidia's site, you'll have to go through the process of removing it and reinstalling it every time there is a kernel update, which is often for Fedora.
When you install using yum, every time the kernel gets updated, so does your Nvidia driver....automatically, this spells "less hassle".

The web site I referred you to earlier has another link to a good tutorial on how to do this. First you have to enable the right repositories as mentioned in step one. Once the repository is set up, install using command: yum install kmod-nvidia as mentioned in step three.

mia_tech

did you fallow leigh's "how too" post ?
AND DISABLE the nouveau DRIVER !!!
that is step 2 in the how too .
this should fix the black screen
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204752

there is a very GOOD reason that that" how to" is a STICKY and is AT THE TOP OF THE GUIDE section .
please read it and fallow it.
