Installing to thumb drive boot from CD

My system doesnt support booting from a thumb drive, and I dont have a floppy drive, so I was wondering if it is possible to load the CD, and set it to boot from the thumb drive. I have PHLAK burned to a CD and want to boot DSL from the thumb drive. ANy ideas?

Ok I have never installed to a flash drive or used DSL before, but I know you can create a grub boot cd that can boot from just about any device. When you install a distro to the hard drive, the boot device for a hard drives is /dev/hda. With most flash or thumb drives, mobile phones and external hard drives, linux see them as scsi mass storage devices. The boot device for theses are /dev/sda (special device), and it will usually be the first one /dev/sda1, maybe you can boot it that way.
