Installing linux on an empty laptop (only usb)

Hi,

I have a problem. My laptop's CDrom is down. My machine is without any O/S. the only working thing on my laptop is my USB port. Is there any way i can install a linux into my laptop?

Thanks in advance!

I carry around a bootable usb pen drive on a keychain in my pocket.

i think mine is a P4. I cant remember the processor speed. it's from compaq.

Yup.i wish i could use the external CDrom. However, i do not have one at the moment. heh. .so i'm trying to find out if there's any other way to get an O/S into my laptop..

Thanks khattaking...:)

u can do one more thing and that is by putting the OS in a bootable usb and then reboot your laptop by keeping the first option as Removeable Media... This will be helpful in the installation of OS...

When you copy songs onto it do you have to use a special piece of software, or does it appear as a USB mass storage device (as a scsi disk in linux). If the latter then it is probably possible to boot from, if the former then I don't think there is any way to.
