This can be done. If you have a floppy station and a fast connection you can try a ftp-install (you boot the install with the floppies and download the rest during the install), most major distros support this. Another way to do this is to install via loopback device (you download the iso-file to your hard drive and boot it from there somehow). I have tried neither, though loopback seems to be the more stable option. Consult the install-guide of your distribution-to-be and search google linux.

//Edit: Ok, that last tip might been a bit too much. Didn't mean to give the RTFM routine, I misread your post count as 1 instead of 142 //

You could try using ZipSlack. You just download and unzip to the root of any FAT16/32 partition.

You might want to try Vector Linux.

www.vectorlinux.com

You can install it by copying files into a Microsoft directory, or onto a linux partition, then booting from a floppy. It then goes and finds the files to install. The linux partition cannot be the one you are going to install to. Works well. You can delete the files after and mount the extra partition as extra space somewhere in your /home directory.

Use the SOHO 3.2 version if you have 1.5 gigs of disk space available. The regular Vector version is very old-hardware friendly, and small.

Installing FC5 from a HDD

I have the same question only from a little different angle. I have an IMac G3. Because my CD Rom doesn't appear to be working properly, I want to copy FC to my hdd and install it from there. What do you think? Any major issues that I need to consider.
